Subject: [ARCHIVES-NRA] Loss of information
To: [log in to unmask]
Hello everyone and happy new year!
With my Society of Archivists' hat on, I have been contacted by Rob
Blackhurst of the Financial Times. He is writing a piece on records
(both historical and modern or semi-current) held in electronic format
with a focus on possible loss of information for the future. He is
also interested in policies relating to the retention or deletion of
information eg. do organisations keep every e-mail or a sample or have
a policy on which ones?
He would particularly like examples of information that has been lost
or deleted through being in an electronic format. The example he gave
was for school admission records that used to be in volumes but are
now on spreadsheets - do record offices still get them? Do they print
them or store them on CD?
He has a reasonable amount on the technical side eg. format
dependency, so does not need information on those issues.
If anyone has anything suitable please contact him at
[log in to unmask] rather than sending anything to me or the
list. He would like this asap!
Many thanks.
Jenny
