Leverhulme Research Fellow - Energy Flow at the Transition State: Mode-
specific Reactive Scattering
A research associate position is available for 3 years from 1st April
2007, or as soon as possible thereafter, to join an exciting new project
in physical chemistry / chemical physics funded by the Leverhulme Trust.
The aim of this project is to study the correlations of the energy
disposal into specific vibrational modes of the molecular products of
elementary gas-phase reactions, and their dependence on the collisional
scattering angle. The experimental approach is based on the ‘photo-loc
method', in which laser-based initiation of the reaction and probing of
the products provides full quantum-state resolution. In these experiments
you will extend the application of the high-resolution Frequency-Modulated
absorption spectroscopy technique to the ‘photo-loc' method for the first
time. Your results will probe the fundamental reaction dynamics of
prototypical reactions at an unprecedented level of detail, providing a
new challenge to the most advanced current theoretical models.
You should have a PhD in a relevant area of Chemical Physics / Physical
Chemistry. Experience with lasers and/or vacuum technology is essential.
