Applications are invited for PhD studies focused on theoretical
(computational) design and modeling of novel (hybrid) nanoscale systems,
operated by chemical, physical and biological principles. The research will
be conducted in the group of Prof. Petr Kral in the Chemistry Department of
the University of Illinois at Chicago (http://www.chem.uic.edu/pkral/).
The Chicago area has the best research institutions and possibilities for
collaborations in the Midwest. Chicago alone in experiencing large scale
renovations, which are particularly visible around the vibrating UIC campus
with many new restaurants, cultural and sport facilities.
We are seeking creative and highly motivated individuals, with computational
skills and background in chemistry, physics or biology. Preliminary
knowledge of theoretical methods used in the above fields is very welcome,
i.e. methods used in molecular design, electronic structure calculations,
quantum transport, molecular dynamics, etc. The candidates should be
interested to conduct interdisciplinary theoretical research at the
nanoscale, using molecular dynamics and quantum chemistry tools.
Interested candidates should e-mail their CV and the names and contact
information of several references to: [log in to unmask] Formal applicants will
also need to submit TOEFL and GRE scores.
