Could I support Judith Rhodes?
The last message I received was very nearly FIVE megabytes, which
caused quite a problem as my mail system ran out of memory and it was
placed in an overflow directory and caused trouble very time we used
the mail system until it was retrieved, removed and read.
What seems very unfortunate was that this size of message was NOT
needed, as several different attachments could each have been sent
with separate messages, making a smaller total size for each dollop.
The other very irritating waster of space which I notice is that a
VERY large number of users of Microsoft software leave their systems
on the default settings, so that anyone mailing a message (1) send the
message in plain ASCII text, which is perfectly adequate for most
purposes, and ALSO sends it in HTML which takes several times the same
space and is not needed most of the time. Is it not possible for the
servers to be set in such a way that HTML attachments which simply
repeat the ASCII message are stripped off before transmission? This
wouls ave a LOT of time when downloading.
Best wishes, Robin.
