I've had forwarded to me some posts from the PLUS listserve about the recent
pulling of BS access for remote users due to the fact that the access was
not via a secure page of the website. This has also happened here in
Warrington Other providers such as OUP and Britannica provided us with urls
for a secure login but BS say they cannot do this. IHS, the company with
whom MLA brokered this deal, are telling me that only "a few" authorities
are affected. I suspect otherwise. So far they haven't provided us with a
solution and I know from past experience that our own IT dept would be
reluctant/unable to do this for us
I will possibly be seeing the technical guy from IHS tomorrow so I'd like to
know how many other authorities this is affecting and if any of you have had
a solution provided by IHS?
If not, could MLA could bring pressure to bear on IHS?
Given that the MLA deal included remote access, I feel that the onus is on
IHS to provide a solution which satisfies the security demands of BS.
Is anyone having other problems with BS apart from the remote access issue
(eg difficulty accessing through their public computer network?)
Thanks in advance for any replies
