According to the Oxford English Dictionary Balchin also coined the
corresponding adjective 'graphicate', a word I haven't come across before.

Subject: Graphicacy
I am sure the reference to Alice Coleman's "invention" of the term
Graphicacy is sound.
As a contemporary researcher with Prof Coleman at Kings College,
Prof.W.G.V.
Balchin, later, while in Swansea, published the idea of Graphicacy as "the
Fourth ace in the pack" - the others being literacy, numeracy and
articulacy. (Tinho perhaps that assists your problem of pronunciation -
Graphic + 'assy'?)
In the paper, he promoted the ability to appreciate, make and use maps and
diagrams as a desirable/ necessary (generic) skill within a geography
degree.
Perhaps now is an appropriate time to resurrect and promote the concept in
today's Skills and Knowledge driven society and re-awaken an awareness of
the capacity of cartographic principles to enhance the preparation and use
of maps and graphics.
