Dear Mr Shand
If it's any help, we hold a collection of maps from and of Scarborough
which is part of the library's special collections, but I'm afraid there
is nothing at all in our collections by Joseph Curry. Perhaps his stay
in Scarborough was relatively brief. He is not listed in Kelly's 1872
directory.
Best regards, Jon Webster

Dear All,
A challenge to those with historical cartographic expertise.
Can anyone help with this query, a quick Google and Library search
found nothing.
Mike
Dear Mr Shand,
I have been involved for some time now in researching my ancestors
and
have come across my 3rd great grandfather Joseph Curry who appeared
to
be a surveyor and cartographer. According to the 1951 census he was
a
surveyor in Bradford but by 1861 was a map publisher in Bradford.
On
the 1871 census he was living in Scarborough and his occupation was
author of charts and maps - he died in 1877 after moving to
Altrincham
Cheshire.
The way he moved around leads me to suspect he was involved in work
drawing up charts and maps of different parts of the country. I
have
tried to find examples of his work through the internet with no
joy,
so now I do not know where to look next.
Yours hopefully
