Hello,
I've been invited to a meeting on Friday about a new exhibition being planned and am looking for some ideas. The exhibition is of our collection of material relating to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (who wrote Sherlock Holmes - the first two books being written when he worked as a doctor in Portsmouth). The exhibition will be up for several years at our City Museum and Records Office. A temporary exhibition was created last year and aimed at adults, but this site attracts a high proportion of families...
So, do any of you out there work for museums about particular authors or for literary museums in general? If so, who are your target audiences? Could you share a couple of your favourite things that you do to attract those particular audiences - comments on exhibitions/ display would be particularly welcome! Obviously comments relating to family audiences would also be particularly useful whatever type of museum you work for.
Also, as part of this meeting I want us to focus on the learning outcomes for the exhibition. Does anyone have any activities that they have used in order to identify learning outcomes for an exhibition? I was hoping to offer something a bit more fun than simply going through the list of Generic Learning Outcomes.
Thanks - I will post a compilation of responses back to the list and promise not to take so long this time.
Thanks
Bryony
