Hi Alice,
I can piggyback on your comment here by saying that MIDAS XML was
designed to make this as uniform as possible within an enterprise
environment. The WKT was chosen for spatial representaitons was
largely becuase all spatial databases and storage engines (but not
necessarily GIS client software) can accommodate WKT geometries
natively. HOwever, the practical success of this intention remains to
be measured.
