In the first instance this is a matter for the college. I would have
thought there are policies in place which prohibit poor attendance, in
the very least there should be other staff asking the question of where
the student is for their sessions either direct or via whatever pastoral
support mechanism is in place.

Furthermore I'm quite sure there will be some issues surrounding the
achievement of this student in terms of their ability to pass the course
with this very limited attendance.

While this post does not represent the views of my employer, here the
student would be put on a disciplinary procedure for non attendance
without good reason, which in the event of this continuing would result
in their eventual dismissal.

This in turn would rectify the benefit issue.
