Subject: FW: NICE Public Health Interventions Guidance on Inequalities
Hi Community Psychology Folk, Here is a chance to register your organisation
as a stakeholder for influencing the NICE Public Health guidance on
interventions to address inequalities in health. They want guidance about a
range of interventions eg. mental health promtion in schools; "management of
long term sickness and incapacity"; and promoting the mental health of older
people.
All good wishes,

Dear colleague,
NICE Public Health Interventions Guidance on Inequalities
The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) is the
independent organisation responsible for providing national guidance on
the promotion of good health and the prevention and treatment of ill
health.
The responsibility of the Centre for Public Health Excellence is to
develop evidence based public health guidance.
As part of this work the Department of Health has asked NICE to develop
intervention and programme guidance across a range of public health
topics. The topic we are writing to you about is:
Strategies for reducing health inequalities in the short, medium and
longer terms: To produce guidance for the NHS and other sectors on what
works in driving down population mortality rates in disadvantaged areas
where risk of early death is higher than average, with particular
reference to proactive case finding and retention, and access to
services.
I am therefore writing to you to alert you to this and to encourage your
organisation to participate in the process. This is because we feel that
your organisation may have a particular interest in this work.
We would encourage your organisation to register as a stakeholder for
the current guidance process by registering on our website:
http://www.nice.org.uk/page.aspx?o=StakeholderRegistrationForm
Please also click on the following website link for more information:
http://www.nice.org.uk/page.aspx?o=350206
By registering as a stakeholder, you are invited to:
* Comment on the draft scope, which sets out what the guidance
will, and will not cover. This will be published on the NICE website on
29 January 2007;
* Review the stakeholder list and suggest other relevant
organisations that may be interested in contributing to the development
of the guidance;
* Comment on and submit additional evidence for consideration of
the draft synopsis of evidence;
* Comment on the draft recommendations.
Consultation on the draft scope for the guidance runs from 29 January
2007 until 26 February 2007. We very much want to know your views on it
before it is finalised. We will discuss its content at the stakeholder
meeting, although this will not replace the formal process for
submitting comments. Furthermore, during the stakeholder meeting, NICE
staff will outline the guidance development process.
The stakeholder meeting to discuss the draft scope for the Health
Inequalities Intervention guidance will be held on 8 February 2007 at a
venue in Central London. The agenda and details of the venue and how to
get there will be forwarded to participants at a later date. The
meeting will start at 13:30pm (with refreshments from 13:00pm) and is
expected to last until 16:15pm.
Please send the stakeholder meeting attendance form(s) to:
[log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>
or fax attached form to 020 7067 5801, indicating whether your
organisation will be represented at this meeting, by 2 February 2007.
Please ensure that you include on the form the names and email addresses
of the representatives who will attend.
Representation at the meeting is limited to two people per stakeholder
organisation. If your organisation represents the interests of patients
and/or community groups, we would ask you to ensure that at least one of
your representatives reflects this aspect of your work.
Please note that although the Institute will reimburse reasonable 2nd
class travel costs and subsistence costs, it is unable to cover loss of
earnings or locum costs.
We very much hope that someone from your organisation will be able to
attend the meeting. It is an opportunity, along with the formal
consultation process, to ensure that issues of concern to your members
are considered for inclusion in the scope. I hope to see you there.
Please find attached the following documents;
* Appendix A : full list of public health topics referred to NICE
as part of the 12th wave;
* Attendance form for stakeholder meeting on 8 February 2007
