Hi Natalie
At an event organised by the My Brighton and Hove community history
website (www.mybrightonandhove.org.uk), we assisted Brighton Museum in
building up their collection of 1960s photos by holding an 'open evening'
at which people brought along their 60s photos for scanning or
contribution. The thing that made it fun is that we asked a local
historian to walk around and make personal choices of three 'winners'
among the photos; he then gave a short talk at which he commented on the
winning entries and we gave small prizes.
I know that the Timespan Community Archive in Scotland also holds annual
open days, which are very successful - might be worth contacting them -
see www.timespan.org.uk .
Incidentally, anyone interested in community archives should join the
mailing-list of the new Community Archives website at
www.communityarchives.org.uk . A team of volunteers are building up the
directory of community archives on the site and are also posting up
details of useful resources and events.
Best wishes
Jack Latimer

archives. We have held seven out of our ten events now and I am currently
planning our big final event.

was wondering if any of the recipients of this mailing list has held a
similar event and could give us some advice and suggest some fun
activities for us to hold. Thank you.
