During our closed period we are considering a small project to weed the large
quantity of rate books we hold. I am aware that standard practice seems to
be to keep only every five years, including the census year (1951, 1956,
1961, 1966 etc.)
Can anybody advise, however, on how far back people use this sampling method,
and whether there are time periods during which all rate books should be
kept? We were considering keeping all rate books for the war years (1914-
1918, 1939-1945), for instance. Do other offices have a cut-off date before
which all rate books are kept, or any other suggestions for weeding?
All suggestions will be most gratefully received.
