Members of the list may be interested in the Clwyd-Powys Metal Mines Survey which has very good notes on many of the local mines including Bodfari Iron Mine. the url is http://www.cpat.org.uk/projects/longer/mines/mines.htm

Can confirm that as Tony King has already pointed out there are iron shafts
marked in a woodland area west of Tan-llan at approx SJ14907125 on the 1900
OS mapping. The Arch. Soc. should also be aware that there are prehistoric
burial mounds in that area which look very similar to grass covered
shaft-mound earthworks. The obvious examples are markled as "tumuli" on
modern OS maps, but there is plenty of scope for finding new ones!
The nearest lead vein is 1 km east of Ysceifiog so the haematite is probably
the best bet. Ore on the spoil tips would confirm if there is any visible.
