Hi all,
It's been a long, long time since I contributed anything to the discussion. That's not to say that I haven't had any involvement - I have read all contributions and have found them interesting, stimulating and inspiring - but it is difficult to find time, in my busy life as a primary school principal, to respond. Occasionally, I have felt a sense of exclusion, as for example from the discussion on Ubuntu, which strikes me as paradoxical in the sense that, from my very limited knowledge of that concept, I understood it to be an inclusive way of living. I am not for a moment suggesting that any contributor caused me to feel excluded - it was my own lack of knowledge around the issue that prevented me from participating. Similarly, I am following the present discussion between Alan and Alon with interest and curiosity, but don't feel sufficiently au fait with the issues to be able to contribute anything of value. However, my learning from these discussions has been immense and !
I would suggest that all contributors have had an educative influence on that learning, so keep the conversations going!
Like Pip, I haven't met very many of the contributors, but I have met Jack - he was external examiner for my PhD last June. My abiding memory of my viva is of Jack's positive, affirming and inclusional values that transformed what had the potential to be a hostile experience. He was realising in practice the standards of judgement that I had been reading about in his writings since 1998.
I wish all a very happy Christmas and New Year, which we will all celebrate in our own way!
Bernie.

< I hope you noticed that at the end of my posting I asked Jack to work wit=
