Hi Ian,
The Galantas Gold Corporation is currently preparing to start gold
production from its gold deposit in Omagh, Co. Tyrone, N. Ireland. They
plan to create added value by fabricating all production into jewellery
under the brand name "Irish Gold" (Galantas Irish Gold Ltd). The hot link
below directs you to their most recent press release.

Apart from that, I am aware that a Canadian mining company, Gabriel
Resources, is working towards re-starting gold production from the Rosia
Montana gold deposit in Romania.

This proposal has, however, generated considerable controversy, as, if
implemented, it will, inter alia, destroy one of the best preserved examples
of underground, Roman age gold mining workings in Europe. These include
beautifully preserved water wheel pits. The following web sites serve to
introduce you to that particular controversy.

Hope that info is of some help to you.
John

Subject: Mining for precious metals in Europe
We had a phone call from a researcher at the BBC yesterday asking if there
was still any active commercial mining for silver or gold anywhere in
Europe.
Can anyone help?
Bye for now
Ian
