Hi Rachel,
Hope you're well.
We are doing a very limited amout of e-submission both through Learnwise
and Moodle but this is set to increase over time.
A few thoughts regarding issues I've already identified:
Group projects - There's a few issues around how group work is uploaded,
marked and recorded such as:
Should one person from the group be responsible for uploading the project
or should each student upload the same project under their own account so
it appears as submitted in all their names - then how do we tell the
students actually all did upload the same bit of work and which one should
we mark? This leads to the need for some sort of group upload functionality
such that one student can upload one piece of work that is automatically
attributed to all the others in the group. It gets more complicated if
there is peer reviewed marking/weighting etc. Then with all the above in
mind how does the system feed the results into the student records system.
Non electronic work - an obvious issue, but our Art students would have
trouble uploading an 8 foot canvas! This also goes for other areas where
sketches (design/fashion/architecture etc), or logbooks
(sciences/engineering), or portfolios of non-digital evidence (law,
education, yacht building etc) are required to be submitted.
Accessibility and students personal IT provision - will there be other
channels for submission should the student be unable to use the electronic
submission and would this disadvantage them in any way?
Currently our students have to sign to say its their own work etc. How do
we deal with digital signatures, identity of student logged on etc and
plagiarism?
These are questions rather than answers as we are no very far down that
road yet. Just head scratching like you.

Subject: E-Submission
Hi everyone,
At the Universityof Northampton, we are running a small pilot using
Blackboard to allow students to electronically submit their work. We don’t
think this will be an ideal solution for all students so would like to find
out if and how other institutions allow electronic submission?
If you could share your experiences and thoughts about e-submission with
me, I would be happy to summarize for the list.
Many thanks,
Rachel
