Dear All,
The RMS is about to participate in a national project designed to assist all
NHS Trusts in meeting our compliance and regulatory requirements in how they
manage and store their records, knowledge and corporate information. The
objective of this exercise will be to develop a Business Classification
Scheme (BSC) / file plan to allow these organisations to organise their
business documents and records in a manner that facilitates access whilst
minimising loss and duplication.
This work is being initiated from a joint collaboration between the RMS
(represented by RMS Chair Dr Paul Duller), the Health Archives & Records
Group (HARG) and the Institute of Health Records and Information Management
(IHRIM). In addition, organisations such as Connecting For Health and the
Department Of Health have also been invited to participate. Before I go any
further, let me stress that this project covers the NHS business records not
the patient records (which are already managed under national guidelines).
The proposed output, however, will compliment the DoH NHS Code of Practice
and the records management
Roadmap.
At this time, myself and Karen Waite (from the Royal Cornwall Hospitals
Trust) are in the process of scoping the project and the first full steering
group meeting is scheduled in London on the 13th December 2006. We already
have been approached by a number of interested parties interested in
participating in, and/or supporting this initiative, however, we are still
looking additional volunteers to work on the project. We would ideally like
a mix of interested people with domain experience in this sector who can
spare a little of their time (some will inevitably be out of office hours)
to work out a framework, assist in drafting and to review the various
stages. Of course, if we have volunteers outside the M25 we will try to
rotate the location of the meetings to accommodate. We will also be setting
up a group mailbox which we can also use to store relevant documents.
If there are people who are unable to volunteer but feel that they may have
some useful information/documentation of value to the project we'd be very
pleased to have sight of it, and will credit you and/or your organisation in
the final report.
Interested parties should contact myself ([log in to unmask]) and
Karen Waite ([log in to unmask]) in the first instance.
Best Wishes,
