where to begin, where to begin
first thing to recognize is that one must research both federal and
state recordkeeping requirements. US federal recordkeeping
requirements can be either statutory or regulatory, ie, a statute such
as Sarbanes-Oxley contains specific recordkeeping requirements, and
that same law authorized various federal agencies to develop
regulations for the implementation of Sarbanes. Those regulations will
also contain recordkeeping regulations.
The US is a federal republic made up of 50 states, each state has
their own recordkeeping requirements and you may or may not have to
conduct research there.
A lot depends upon the type of business the sister organization is
involved in. That helps to determine what federal regulatory agencies
it may be subject to. If it is subjet to US tax law then you will need
to research Internal Revenue Service regulations. It may be subject to
EPA regulations (Environmental Protection) or OSHA (Safety and
Health). Is it a financial services business if so it may be subject
to SEC regulations. oh and it will be subject to ICE recordkeeping
requirements (immigration) we have what is called the I-9 form that is
used by employers to verify an applicants employment eligibility
hope this information helps. Retention research in the US is not very
cut and dry
