Research Fellow (3 Years Fixed Term)
This is a fixed term post for three years to work on a social research project involving CHANGE, a national organisation run by disabled people working for equal rights for all people with learning difficulties, based at the CHANGE offices in Leeds.
Funded by the Big Lottery, the project aims to identify the knowledge, views and aspirations of young people with learning difficulties around sexuality and personal relations. Relationship problems experienced by adults with learning difficulties can lead to unsafe sexual practices, sexual abuse and parenting problems, leading to the removal of children. One of the reasons for this occurring is the lack of sex education provided to people with learning difficulties. The study will use interactive theatre with young people with learning difficulties to express their views on sexuality and forming personal relationships. The research will also look at current training provision at a regional level through consultations with parents and teachers and at a national level through an audit on training and information sources.
