Semi-sweet, sharp, and subtle, Gerald; layerings of mood that yet mood-stop to assert mind. For example, "but where we are" twists me away from outer lifecycles to my present state, and "each face of ours, sublime, indifferent, or sad..." returns me to "every leaf staining the sidewalk under heavy rains" --- now a focus away from sensuous beauty to the ways my life-leaves have brought me, inevitably, here.
