Hi Mike,
I quote: "We would wish to see 1:2500 mapping, eg Mastermap, used as a base for all trench location plans on grounds of accuracy".
I would be quite happy for us to supply trench location information digitally, derived at the appropriate scale, with some metadata to indicate it's origin/accuracy etc, as the alternative would mean a huge hike in the costs of doing the work, which would be bad- for everyone!

I'm a bit confused here. Do you mean that they have asked you to supply the trench locations with Mastermap as the base, which perhaps is unreasonable or just that each trench location plan should be at 1:2500 which does seem reasonable. If accuracy of trench locations is really the issue, however, it would be better to supply the locations as a digital file exported from whatever software was used to capture the trench location in a format which could be loaded into the host SMR. After all there is no guarantee that a trench location put onto a 1:2500 map base has not been just sketched in!

Subject: Base Maps for Client Reports
Hi Everyone,
Our unit has recently been asked to use 1:2500 scale (eg Mastermap) as the basis for all trench location plans for work in our county. Is this standard? It would be enormously expensive to achieve, so I was just wondering what HER Officers elsewhere ask for from commercial units in terms of base-mapping for reports.
Many thanks
