Hi All,
I had a run-in with the biodesign guys at MIT a few
years back. My impression after intense discussions
with them is that they are trained not to accept the
idea that everything biological isn't wonderful; in
particular, our dispute was about my contention that
there are constraints on natural selection (for which
there is very good evidence). They're basically a
bunch of natural romantics.
I found them very frustrating and intellectually
dissatisfying. I would have felt bad not to warn you.
This is the discussion:

Even signed with my real name back then!
Stanford may be different, or it may not. I'd be
curious to hear if anyone applies and finds out they
do understand natural selection after all.
Best,
Philipp
