medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

Bernard was one of thirty-one brothers, cousins, uncles, nephews etc.
who turned up and enrolled at Citeaux on the same day in 1112, or as
some believe 1113. The date makes a difference. If the earlier, then
Bernard and his siblings breathed new life into a moribund order. If
the later, then they joined an order which was beginning to show signs
of life. Of his sisters I know nothing.
I crave the indulgence of the list to add a personal note, the
necessity of which will be apparent:
Marjorie dearest, I have but moments ago tried to mail you privately
and had my message refused - the Daemon Maeler didn't like your
address. In despair, I tried mailing our mutual friend K., but got the
same stern reply. Perhaps you would mail me off-list with the no-doubt
reasonable explanation.
Bill.
