The Department of Sociology at Rutgers University seeks to hire a
tenure-track Assistant Professor working in the area of Sociology of
Knowledge/Science, subject to the availability of funds. The position is to
begin September 2007. Our interests include but are by no means limited to:
(1) relations between science and technology; (2) the transmission of
knowledge within scientific fields, or between science and other social
institutions and actors (e.g., biomedical sciences and the health
professions, forensic science and the legal profession); (3) the role that
scientific knowledge plays in the social construction of racial, sexual, and
gender distinctions. Methodological approach is open; this position could
encompass comparative, historical, archival, ethnographic, network, or other
quantitative approaches. Applicants should have completed their Ph.D.s by
September 2007. We will begin reviewing applications on September 20, 2006.
