Re BERA this year,
I had intended to attend all the SIG sessions, but unfortunately some
clashed and I also was drawn to other things of particular interest and
relevance to my own situation. There were only 9 attendees to the
Practitioner SIG for my paper on the Thursday at 4.30 p.m. I suspected
people were very tired (as I was by then) after a day of listening to
others. However a colleague reported low attendance to their session
(another SIG) on Thursday morning and attributed this to people not
rising early enough for the first session after the dinner on Wed
evening.
Whatever the reasons I think the issue is really the large size of the
conference, the overlap in content of papers across SIGs, and the need
to take some time out to reflect.
