Stephen, I found "Some Scenes in North Beach" intriguing, though why some
of the found language seemed worthy of record probably boils down to a
matter of individual taste. For me, the strongest segment revolves around
your spotting of Jack Hirshman's Collected Poems, and then, its author.
Joe White, now a DC painter and poet (The Oriental Palace / Adventures in
Poetry, 1973), has told me of his early sixties experience viewing Jack
Spicer on a regular basis within a North Beach eatery always consuming the
same item: a pork chop sandwich. I hadn't encountered that narrative
