POSTGRADUATE CONFERENCE: CALL FOR PAPERS
"The court is on earth an ymage infernall"
Life at the European courts 1300-1600
2 March 2007
Royal Holloway, 11 Bedford Square, London
www.postgradcourtconf.org.uk
This conference will allow research students from a range of disciplines to
present and discuss new approaches in the study of European court life and
culture in the period 1300-1600. The event is funded by the AHRC and
organised by postgrads at Royal Holloway, Cambridge, Edinburgh and the Open
University.
We are now inviting postgraduate students at all stages of research to
submit proposals for 20 minute papers. Subject areas might include - but are
by no means restricted to - material culture, ritual and ceremony, the arts,
sociability, roles of particular social groups (servants, women,
foreigners), religion at court, patron/client relationships...
The aim is to provide a friendly and supportive environment in which to
discuss your research, meet other people working in the field, and swap
ideas. We welcome papers from students of history, art history, music,
language and literature and beyond.
Please send a 250 word abstract, with your name and contact details, year of
study and institution, to Jessica Lutkin, [log in to unmask], by Friday 1
December, 2006.
If you have any queries about the conference, or want to discuss your paper
proposal, do get in touch with either Jessica or myself (Catherine Fletcher
- [log in to unmask]).
Registration details will be available on the conference website,
www.postgradcourtconf.org.uk, in due course.
