Dear all,
With apologies for cross postings...
Postcolonial Economies: an ESRC seminar series
Third seminar 16 October 2006, Centre for Urban and Regional Development
Studies, Newcastle University, UK
We would like to announce the third in a series of seminars on
Postcolonial Economies. The seminar series is bringing together a range
of social science researchers to explore some of the challenges and
possibilities of using postcolonial approaches to think about
contemporary economies. For details of the entire series, visit the
website at:
http://www.ncl.ac.uk/geps/research/geography/pcseminars/
The third seminar focuses Postcolonial Understandings of 'the economic'
and includes presentations from Professor Timothy Mitchell (Department
of Politics, New York University, USA) and Dr Cathy McIlwaine
(Department of Geography, Queen Mary's UK), with one additional speaker
to be confirmed.
Participation in this seminar series is open and we are keen to engage
as many people as possible although attendance is limited. Travel costs
for up to 8 postgraduate participants will be covered. To ensure access
to this financial support and a place at the seminar, please email Jane
Pollard ([log in to unmask]) as soon as possible.
Alongside the seminars, our website:
http://www.ncl.ac.uk/geps/research/geography/pcseminars/
will allow for 'virtual' participation in the series. Through the
website, we hope to engage with others with related but more distant
interests and with those working outside the UK on similar issues. The
website will include details of the seminars and copies of the papers
and will be linked to an email list postcolonialeconomies. Please feel
free to browse and join.
