Following a series of successfuly sessions at the RGS-IBG Annual Conference 2006, often
run in conjunction with other RGS-IBG Research Groups, the opportunity now arises for
further Post-socialist sessions at the RGS-IBG Annual Conference 2007.
Ideally we would like to run sessions in conjunction with other Research Groups that
integrate the post-socialist 'world' with other parts of the world.
So far we have two suggestions:
1. a session on geopolitical and cultural imaginings of a 'larger Europe' to encompass
such themes as imaginings of Europe in the context of EU enlargment and the accession of
Bulgaria and Romania and images of migrant labour etc [probably to be convened by Craig
Young (Manchester Metropolitan UK) and Duncan Light (Liverpool Hope, UK)]
2. sessions on sustainability and welfare around the globe [probably to be co-ordinated
by Jon Oldfield, Birmingham UK]
However, we would welcome other suggestions for sessions and people who would be willing
to take on the convening of sessions, particularly in association with other RGS-IBG
Research groups or other organisations.
If anyone would like to take on organising a session please get back to me. Calls for
sessions need to be registered with the RGS by 1 November 2006.
Thanks,
Craig.
