Human Geography

We are seeking to appoint a 50% Teaching Fellow/50%
Research Fellow in the Department of
Geography to be based in Exeter, effective from 26
September 2006 (or as soon as possible) for the
academic year 2006/7 i.e. nine months.
This position offers an exciting opportunity for an
enthusiastic early-career scholar and scientist to
obtain teaching experience and/or enhance their
research experience in the vibrant forward-looking
Department of Geography at Exeter. This would provide
an excellent stepping-stone into an academic
career.
For the Teaching Fellow component of this post we
require a Human Geographer who will largely
focus on support of level 1 teaching. The post-holder
will be responsible for the tutorial programme for
the first year students. For the Research Fellow
component, your research interests should
complement our existing research groups
(Historical-Cultural Geography,
Nature-Society-Rurality, or
Space, Power and Political Economy). The successful
applicant will work in collaboration with
permanent staff on a cutting edge research project.
Applicants will have research interests that
complement those of one or more members of the
permanent Geography staff at Exeter. They will be
enthusiastic about their subject, and have a PhD or
equivalent in Geography or a closely-related
discipline. They will be able to provide evidence of
research output beyond thesis production and evidence
of ability to work to deadlines. They will be
competent with ICT and have good communication skills.
In addition, for the Teaching Fellow
component, applicants must demonstrate evidence of
successful engagement with undergraduate
students.
Salary will be in the region of £21,500 - £24,000
depending upon previous experience.
