The Geneva-based Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) of the
Norwegian Refugee Council is looking for an experienced Training Officer
to strengthen the IDMC's training team. Mandated by the United Nations,
the IDMC is the leading international body monitoring internal
displacement worldwide and providing training on the protection of
Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to field-based actors. Target groups
of IDMC's activities include national and local authorities, international
agencies (UN and NGOs), local NGOs and leaders of displaced communities,
and national human rights institutions. For more information on the
Project and its training activities, visit its website at www.internal-
displacement.org.

Responsibilities
Among the Training Officer’s main task will be the planning of training
projects for relevant actors in countries affected by internal
displacement. This includes establishing contacts with field-based
partners, identifying their training needs, and designing country-specific
training programmes. The Training Officer is also responsible for the
delivery of training, based on the training modules developed by the IDMC,
and the facilitation of workshops in the field. Following the completion
of training workshops, the Training Officer is responsible for drafting
the final reports of workshops, their dissemination, and the monitoring of
the workshops' outcomes and impact. The Training Officer will also
contribute to the development of IDMC's training activities through the
design of relevant training materials and the promotion of training
activities.

Qualifications
Candidates should have an advanced University degree, as well as
documented in-depth knowledge in the field of international humanitarian
law and human rights, preferably with a focus on forced migration.
Applicants must have significant professional training experience. Field
experience, and familiarity with the international humanitarian system at
field and/or headquarters level are essential. Fluency in English and
excellent drafting skills are a must. Knowledge of other UN languages is
an asset. Candidates should be highly motivated, well organised, able to
work quickly and efficiently, within an international team, and available
for frequent missions to the field.

Application
The deadline for applications is 15 September 2006. Please send a cover
letter and your CV to the following address:
