Description:
Be the lead analyst in a £2.85M research consortium.

We are looking for an applied social statistician or quantitative social
scientist to lead the analysis of one of the UK's major current energy end
use studies. This post offers an excellent opportunity for a social
statistician to play a significant role in a major project and quickly
establish an academic reputation in this rapidly growing field.

The five-university 'Carbon Reduction in Buildings' (CaRB) consortium, part
of the UK's 'Carbon Vision' programme, is gathering social and technical
data from households across the UK. The successful applicant will take a
lead in the analysis of this primary data, and in the analysis of secondary
data sets relevant to the project.

A major output of the project is construction of a particular form of
multivariate statistical model called a Bayesian Belief Network for use by
energy efficiency policy makers and programme implementers. Preparatory work
to the construction of this model requires data analysis using a suite of
methods ranging from regression to Cluster Analysis and Principal Components
Analysis.

The successful applicant is likely to hold an MSc with significant
statistics training or a PhD with a significant data analysis component.
They will have an applied knowledge of the forms of multivariate analysis
mentioned above, and experience using SPSS or comparable statistical
software.
