Netskills will be running the following workshops at Nottingham University:
1. Web Pages from Scratch, 12th September

Publishing web pages is now easier than ever. However, some degree of technical knowledge and skill is vital in order to create high-quality, standards-compliant online content. This practical workshop explains how web publishing works and teaches the fundamental skills you will need to create web pages using the current XHTML standard - along with an introduction to web page style and design.
2. CSS: A Complete Web Style Toolkit, 13th September

The nature of the web today means there is an expectation for sites to deliver professional-looking, accessible and cost-effective content. Couple this with the need to provide easily maintained web pages - that also meet the current publishing standards - and you have just some of the reasons that make CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) into an essential toolkit that all web authors should have at their disposal.
3. Accessibility, Usability and Your Web Site, 14th September

The modern world now relies heavily on the web to deliver services and information directly to users, wherever they are and whoever they may be. The addition of legislation to ensure everyone can access and use important web content means that developers must have the skills to balance basic access to their web site with the ability for everyone to engage with it in a meaningful way.
4. Database Design and SQL, 19th September

The most important aspect of database-driven web publishing is the database itself. Poorly designed and constructed databases often lead to additional, expensive and unnecessary development (usually requiring extra scripting and retrospective fixes) in order to produce a functioning web application. Netskills can help you develop the skills to be able to produce an efficient, scalable and optimised SQL database for use with your web solutions. This practical workshop will demonstrate how to develop an initial database design and turn it into a cost-effective, working solution.
5. Databases on the Web, 20th September

Now you can finally get to grips with the fundamentals of web programming and add exciting, dynamic functionality to your web site. Having picked up the skills required to present web content using HTML and CSS, many developers find the move towards incorporating programming technologies within their web sites more challenging. This new workshop will explain the core web programming concepts and languages that you will need - to help you make that move with confidence!
