Hi Joyce

Sorry that I couldn't reply immediately - I've been on Annual Leave for

a few days.

We don't have any CDs on this subject here at the Library. I've checked

on the Stroke Association website and they don't seem to have anything

like that either. Most of their resources are downloadable leaflets.

I do have a resource here which was published by the Stroke Association

in 1983 - "A Time to Speak" Positive ideas for helping stroke patients

with speech and associated problems at home and in groups. The author is

Valerie Eaton Griffith.

Alternatively I would suggest that the lady contacts a Speech and

Language Therapist or Specialist for guidance on self help.

With best wishes

Julie

Subject: Language resources for improving the English of Stroke victims

Dear all,

Have you at any time found any useful diy material for improving the

speech of stroke victims? My reason for asking

Yesterday I received an interesting enquiry from a lady whose husband

had

had a stroke and whose speech was badly affected, she asked whether we

had

any materials on cdrom or cd that might be used to assist him at home.

(I had already enquired as to whether they were receiving any other

help

from Stoke association etc thinking that an address or two might be of

some

assistance.)

Well, we were a bit limited by what was available, we do stock

language

materials for ESFL learners of English also basic skills materials....

  not really appropriate,

 It is an interesting question

Is there a need for public libraries to stock such materials and if so

what type???? (and in what quantity? given that budgets are tight)

Any thoughts on the subject apprecaited
