Countryside Quality Counts – 2nd Consultation Online Now

Countryside Quality Counts (CQC) is a project to develop a national
indicator of how the countryside is changing. It aims to understand the
impact of change in terms of maintaining local distinctiveness:
identifying how and where change is occurring, and where change matters
the most.

The CQC project is currently undergoing a new phase of development and
consultation, involving further update of the database for the period
1998 to 2003. The first round of consultation was very successful,
generating a wealth of useful local knowledge about landscape change in
the Joint Character Areas of England (the geographical framework used by
the project).

The second round of consultation is now running from
1 August to 29 September 2006, providing the opportunity to comment on
the assessment of landscape change made by the CQC team.

The second consultation will be a much simpler and shorter exercise than
the first, involving participants from the previous round of the CQC
assessment, as well as anyone with an interest in landscape and related
issues. Once again, it is being carried out via a web-based tool that is
clearly structured to guide you to a final, overall conclusion for the
JCA(s) you are concerned with. Detailed local knowledge of landscape
change will not be required and detailed evidence files for each JCA are
available on the consultation website, including maps and data tables.

Your local knowledge is essential in updating the national indicator of
countryside change.

The Countryside Agency LAR division and partners recognise your valued
contribution to this important project. Please visit the online
consultation tool at the web address below and complete your input as
soon as possible. All comments must be received by 29 September 2006.
