With reference to citations, yes I realise this is a somewhat academic list,
but I have to say it is not just in the sphere of disability studies that I
find the customary citations annoying, you cannot read any paper where any
one dares to say anything without finding someone else who said it in an
academic context (I think this woud make a sociological study in itself)
However this paper chase of citations can lead to some point in the past
where a meme or urban legend became embedded as a "scientific" fact because
citation upon citation repeats what originally was an opinion and had no
"ecological" validity at all.
In the field of disability research I would rather see political polemic
than academic citation, (properly referenced of course) --- :)
