medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I've been looking into the hexameral tradition and am
wondering just when the story of the angels fall
becomes fused with the basic story of salvation
history and becomes "catechetical." Augustine's
catechism does not contain it, and his discussion of
the fall of the angels and that humanity was created
to replace the number of the fallen angels in City of
God isn't catechetical or part of a story of
salvation. So somewhere between Augustine and the
ninth century, the two elements seem to have become
fused and I'm wondering how well it can be pinpointed.
Thoughts? Bibliography?
