Dear All
When this programme that John Wood described was introduced in Sussex I contacted the officer in charge to offer placements in our museums - I thought they might like the chance to meet some of the more challenging members of the public who our staff deal with. Sadly this was not the kind of community project they were interested in. They only seemed to want projects involving difficult youths, people from ethnic minorities, elderly or disabled people. He said he would 'get back to me' if the rules changed to cover charities like ours! It seems like a missed opportunity to me, after all dealing with 75 eastern european students who speak virtually no English and of whom all want to use our very limited toilet facilities at once at the same time as answering questions from other visitors, extracting signiatures on gift aid forms and selling goods from the shop should be very good experience for police officers and far more challenging than dealing with some of the
groups they are targeting.
