Your outrage is rather similar to a TV
viewer, who has just seen a programme on the BBC that they dont like,
and complain about a 'waste of license payers money'.
Well Mark, such people are generally dismissed on the grounds they want to
censor, or are applying personal value judgements. My "outraged taxpayer"
attitude is rather more down to earth - is it good value for money? That's a
perfectly reasonable question for taxpayers to ask about every single element of
public expenditure - indeed, we have a Parliamentary Committee that constantly
asks that. My feeling is that the all the project aims could have equally
well have been achieved in an environment that offered a greater benefit yield
to balance against the cost. I don't think that makes me Mary Whitehouse,
merely someone who recognises that resources are limited.
