I'm introducing this topic because the History Matters thread.
In common with many other universities, we (University of Central
England - UCE Birmingham) have a certain reliance on International
Students. Apart from the obvious teaching of the subject they're
studying, we teach then English and take them on trips round the place.
We also need to set these in context.
But has anyone any sources of teaching them some basic English History?
I've often been asked questions which I've answered but have to set them
into context, so a simple answer takes a couple of hours.
What I'm looking for is intelligent websites - so that we can offer them
up a both a means of adding background and teaching English. Do any such
exist? I haven't done any searching yet as my question is inspired by
History Matters, and the speciality of this list would exceed the
ability of any search engine to find the answers. I've tried BBC
bitesize, but this is about passing specific exams and not a broad brush
overview that's needed in my case.
