There could be a connection. According to the ODNB, the family came from
Greasley, and there's a brief note that the third brother, Thomas
(1838-1818) was one of the founding partners of Barber Walker.
In 1766 John Barber inherited his uncle, John Fletcher's colliery business
which included Heanor, Smalley and Denby collieries (all in Derbyshire)and
other pits at Camp Hill, Nuneaton; JB also seems to have had some interest
in lead mines at Matlock in the 1770s.
