Unless we can see what you're referring to we are really thrashing in
the dark here!
I suggest that you look at the home page of the Peak District Mines
Historical Soc. They use the Wirksworth miner carving, which is
'flat' and of stone, as their logo.
The only other possibility that I can think of and I cannot believe
that it is this, is the 'Overseer' in Gentlewoman's Pipe, Matlock.
This is, to say the least, a rather suggestive carving with prominent
'male appendages'! Although as in the Wirksworth carving there is the
suggestion of traditional 'female' attire.
That said, I seem to recall another similar carving in a mine in the
Castleton area too.
