Almost certainly this refers to the mining area around Strahalbyn, South of Adelaide.
In 1845 Strathalbyn became the site of Australia's second ever metal mine. There were also a number of major diggings and mines extending 20 kilometres north to towns like Callington and Kanmantoo, making the Hills Australia's first ever mining belt. The last mine only closed in 1970.
