St Loy is certainly the same as St Eloi or St Elegius. Devotion to St Eloi was very
widespread, due to his invocation for the health of horses, among other things.
Noyon, of which he was bishop, was, however, a particularly strong focus of
devotion, and from 1212, the Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris possessed one of
his arms. According to both Denis Bruna and Brian Spencer, pilgrim badges of St
Eloi undoubtedly come from Noyon.
