medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Jim, Here is one for starters:
http://www.museoprado.es/msite_crucifixion/originality.html
You'll notice several skulls lying about. Not exactly medieval, but you
didn't specify that it had to be medieval. I'm going to see what else I can
find.
I could come up with all sorts of fanciful explanations of the symbolism but
nothing rooted in fact (or real scholarship).
