At Alderley Edge in Cheshire, it was the method of copper production in the
period 1857 to 1877. Supposedly introduced by William Henderson, a chemist
from Glasgow, the copper was leached from mined and crushed sandstone with HCl
and then precipitated on iron. There is a good description of the process in
the Mining Journal in 1865 or refer to our website where there is a description
and diagrams.
