Try BRITISH MINING No. 19. of Northern Mining Research Soc. West
Stonesdale Mine by J. H. McNeil. Pp.15 - 19, inc. diagrams and photos.
Located at NY 8857 0350. Dated 1850 to 1861. It contained a hydraulic
engine. The remains are most interesting, bulge most ominously and inside
contain an open shaft full of water. Some years ago the site was securely
fenced around and some timbers installed to reduce further bulging.
Certainly worthy of further investigation and a good deal of conservation.
Simon.

Subject: Stonesdale Engine Shaft
Hi List,
Could anyone supply me with the location (NGR) of Stonesdale
Engine Shaft just above Keld in North Yorks. A little bit of its history or
where to look for it would also help.
Thanks
Barry
