Unfortunately I think you will find Trevor is right. When we publicly speak
out we get blackilsted and never work in the field again. Yes it is true it
as happened to people.

Don't expect archaeologists to fight for your cause, you are on your own
brother! Professional archaeologist have too much to lose to get involved
and planning departments are a total load of crap when it comes down to the
rights or wrongs of heritage management!
I think you are painting with rather a broad brush here, Trevor. Not all
people in any one prfession can be lumped together in something like this.
It is a shame that your own experience wasn't supported, and I do
sympathise, but I have never seen any evidence that archaeologists as a
single monolithic group are so in fear of "the system" that they will not
speak out. Ditto "council members" and planning department personnel. In
some cases, in some areas: yes, things like that do happen. But as a total,
unrelenting, silently cowering bloc?
And maybe, just maybe, you could have gotten more support if you had
approached the right people in the right way, with a balanced and reasoned
set of arguements...just a thought.
