medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Do any of you good people out there have any leads to pre-Reformation
paintings, drawings, statues etc. of (Blessed/Saint) John Schorne? He
is English, never formally canonized, and mostly famous for having
trapped the Devil in a boot -- someone is selling a delightful little
reproduction pewter pilgrimage badge showing him holding the boot
with a small bat-winged devil peeking out the top.
Online, I've found one (1) good photo here, though the face has been
scratched out:

I've also found a website for North Marston, the saint's birthplace,
which within the last several years has restored his well.

I particularly like the arrangement they created where when you draw
water from the well, a little devil peeps out from a metal boot
resting on the well-curb :)
I was going to include him in the "Field Guide to Saints" class I'm
teaching Saturday, though I probably won't have time -- too many more
important ones to cover. But I'd like to find some better images for
the next time I teach it. I've ransacked my picture-books with no
luck so far.
